Question:
I'm looking for a simple, low cost smoke/fire alarm system with a remote
alarm. I want to place a smoke/fire detector in my garage, attic, and a
detached building very close to the house. I would like a remote alarm that
I can place in my bedroom. Can I do this without buying a complete security
system, and only installing the smoke/fire alarms? Can you recommend a make/
model? Can I work with wireless fire alarm system ?
Answer:Nothing legal comes to mind, I could envision a power supply with an
X10 powerflash module for alarm transmission, with a plug in X10 siren
for annunciation. By the time you cobble this mess together you could
have probably bought a decent wireless panel with which you could add
burglary protection at a later time. Also in my opinion using X10
devices as life safety transmitters is iffy, since X10 is not always
100% reliable. I may pull some flames for that last remark. Hope that
