Question: We are running a local CCTV video surveillance camera system as follows:
Eight SONY B&W cameras into an EverFocus 8BDX multiplexer/switcher, with the
composite output from the mux to an EverFocus EDSR100 Digital Video Recorder
for archiving.
What we would like to be able to do is insert a piece of hardware between
the mux and the recorder, in order to process the video signal somewhat
before it goes into the recorder. By processing, we mean only to make such
changes as controlling brightness and contrast, with ability to adjust gain
on the output side to the recorder. No fancy effects or high-tech editing
features are required.
Can anyone suggest a manufacturer/product that might fit our needs?
Answer:You might do a yahoo search for "video processor" and then look for systems that
compatible with your connection format, which I assume is composite.
You will typically be able to adjust the black level (brightness) and the white
level (contrast) as well as chroma (color) and phase (hue/tint). Some units also
offer edge enhancement (sharpness) and a TBC or timebase corrector for a more
stable signal.
There are quite a few composite and S-video capable video processors.
We recently bought a unit from this company...
