Question:
I currently live in an apartment with two roommates. I own 95% of the
furniture and other contents in the apartment. As our lease is coming
to a close we are all packing and going our seperate ways. Am I allowed
to install a security camera in the living room of the apartment as a way
to keep an eye on my personal property?
Answer:If you dont trust the roomies enough that you think they'll try to steal
your furniture when you're not looking then why move in with them in the
first place?
I dont think installing a security camera is going to help, one well-placed
towel and bye-bye picture.... I would imagine that having a little chat with
the roomates about ownership of the different items would probably be
better, that way there's no misunderstandings when it comes time to move
out. Personally, I'd see the installation of a security camera as an insult
to my own integrity, insinuating that someone that I've lived with for many
months doesn't trust me, and sometimes the resentment-revenge act can do
more damage than if things had been left alone.
