Question: I want to have some exterior security cameras show their picture on a
UK Any shielded cable will do. Only ground one end of the shield. The
shield will cut down on signal loss. I use shielded, 8 conductor
computer cable from a surplus store in my area. My longest run to a
camera is about 600', and at that distance I start to get a little snow,
so 250' should be fine. Anyone know security camera for sale ?
Answer:I use the Radio Shack video Monitoring system and I needed a 200 foot
length. I simply bought two...one hundred foot spools of telephone cable
"very cheap". My video cable is a 6 conductor and I simply took six of the
one hundred ft wires and soldered them together with the video cable
conductors to get the length I needed. Works fine. My problem was keeping
rain from the camera. I mounted it under a bird house using side panels. I
lost some lateral viewing but I do get the frontal view I wanted, which is
the entrance to my retreat.
