Question: I am looking to do a job with 4 b&w lorex security cameras that go directly
into a computer so that the person can view these cameras over the internet.
Can someone give me good information/cameras and box to use/get? About how much
would an install like this cost?
Answer:PC bases would be the cheapest if there is already a PC on the locationthat
sees veyr low usage. In my experience it does not work well if the PC gets
high usage as a workstation. I have used the Lorex (Strategic Vista /
Phillips / Magnavox) card in a test machine in my office and it worked ok.
Remote access also worked ok via high speed internet. I recently purchased
a cheap Hong Kong 4 camera card off od Ebay. I have not had time to put it
in my test computer to check out, but it "looks" identical to the Lorex
card. It even has the connector on the top of the card far an alarm input
adaptor.
Cameras are a you get what you ay for phenomenon except in the less
expensive cameras. Again if price is the deciding factor buy some cheap
boar cameras in appropriate housings. Most of these are sold with the same
wide angle 3.6 mm lens, but i recently discovered that good reputable
distributors will offer them with different lenses to meet you needs. I
doscovered this whent he distributor i was using ticked me off and Is tarted
looking for an alternative source.
