Question: I would like to ask opinions about floor safes that are available.
Anybody have any favorites in floor safe ?
I haven't kept up on it, but are there any units that are fire-
resistant? (this will be in-the-floor, but not in concrete) Are there
also UL listings for tr and tl resistance for floor safes?
Answer:Only way I can think of to produce a UL listing for a floor safe is to
specify exactly how much concrete/rebar/whatever it's to be embedded
in -- remember, a main point of floor safes is that the floor can become
part of the enclosure, thus reducing cost of the safe per se since its
sides are not accessible in any reasonable amount of time. I don't
think I've seen a safe designed to meet your spec...
Fire resistance: In theory a properly embedded floor safe ought to
resist heat pretty well. Unfortunately it will also probably fill with water
while the fire is being extinguished...
