Question: We are going to install a home security system but refuse to sign a contract
for any certain number of years - per Clark Howard's advice! Anyone out there
who can recommend a dependable one with no contract signing required and with
a reasonable monthly monitoring fee? Clark says never pay over $20.00 a month
for this service! How much is a home security system internet?
Answer:Then you haven't done your research.
If you already own your own equipment, you can get monitoring for as little
as $10 a month.
If you don't own your own equipment, then you can buy it off the internet
(CADDX is an excellent system), and have an alarm company install it for you
if you're not technically inclined. You'll pay an upfront fee for the
installation, but still no yearly contract. It's much cheaper than "buying"
a cheap ADT or CPI system over a 3 year contract for $30 or $40 a month.
I prewired my home, bought all my equipment from an internet wholesaler, and
hired a contractor to install it (I travel a bit and didn't have time to do
it myself). I pay $18 bucks a month for a local monitoring station, and
have no contract.
I don't know if it's appropriate to advertise their services, so if you're
interested in the details of my recent install, you can e-mail me at
