Question: I recently purchased a steel home security safe (not a fire safe).
It weighs ~300 lbs, and I lagged one screw into the stud of the adjacent
wall and one into the floor, so I don't think it's going anywere. Now that
it's here, I have storage for my handguns, expensive cameras, paperwork etc.
Is there anything, like silica gel, or anything else that I should put in
there to protect it from humidity or anything else??
- It does not seem to appear air tight, as the steel door has about 1~2 mm
of play.
- It's on the main living level, not in the basement.
- I regularly open it about once a month, as I go shooting often.
Given these facts, what should I put in there, if anything.......
What Will you do for your home security safe?
Answer:You say its not going anyplace, why because you cant move it, two to
three guys can wreck a house up just to move a safer, they dont care
what they break, they ruined a hardwood floor by dragging a small safe
across it and then rolling down an antique stirway and did thousands of
dollars in damage eventhough the safe was empty.
yes, use silica gel and keep the safe open for long periods of time when
you are home. if the guns dont rust in the house, they will not rust in
the safe.
