Question:
We're considering purchasing (having installed) a First Alert home
security system. We've interviewed serveral vendors, and the one
selling First Alert has come in substancially lower than the others.
Anyone have any experience with first alert home security system ?
Thoughts? Advice?
Answer:First Alert is a trade name, not a brand of product when it comes to
security panel. What panel has he specified? How does he plan to do all
the windows and doors? Any motion detectors included? Did you ask for
references? How much is the monthly monitoring and how long do you have
to stay with them?
Many people fail to understand what signing a long term contract means.
They may put a lien on your home, Yes they might, it's been done to
secure their interest in you paying them. Remember, if you default, it's
all due at once!
Suppose you don't like them anymore, tough luck. You're stuck. Want to
add or change something? You can't go anywhere else. You just narrowed
down future choices to one.
I am getting more and more complaints about this now. I had a person and
buy three motion detectors in the store for his alarm company to install
because they wanted to much for their's! But they had to install it. See
what I mean about being stuck?
I don't make my customers sign up for more than one year at a time. It's
makes me work harder to keep them, and they have a choice every year.
