Question: I'm trying to find a digital wireless security camera do time-lapse photography.
I need to photograph the progress of a construction project which will take about
four years to complete -- one exposure per day. I will have to visit the site at
least once every month. Problems I'm running into are that many digital
cameras do not have built-in intervalometers, and if they do have
intervalometers, the period between exposures is not long enough (24 hours),
or the minimum number of shots per period is not small enough ( I need one).
I'm also concerned about the battery power needed. Digital cameras don't
seem to be able to turn themselves totally (almost) on and off to save
power. The camera will be in a climatized box on a pole - no power. Optics
is another concern. Since digital camera optics have no shutter, what will
exposure to direct or reflected sunlight for days at a time do to the optic?
I can do all of this on 35mm film, but hoped to save film, processing,
transfer to CD, and some of the manipulations needed to get the CD info onto
video by going with digital wireless security cameras.
Anyone done anything like the above, or have any ideas? Thanks a lot!
Answer:Sounds to me like you would want a digital camera that is remotely
connected to a computer - is this possible, say with a wire? A wireless
connection is still probably not practical or cheap enough. But if
you used a computer, it could control the exposure and perhaps power
the camera. I'm thinking of something like a security camera though
those probably need their own power...
