Question: I wish to reinstall a couple of CCTV camera (mono), the cable that was
previously used was RG59 Do I have to use RG59, or will regular TV coax be OK?
What is the difference between the two cables? Any advice appreciated.
Answer:It depends on the length of the run (how far the camera is from the
monitor). If it is a short run any shielded cable will do. I normally use a
2 or 4 core shielded cable for runs upto 100m from there on I normally use
RG-6 as it is a high quality 'universal' cable.
RG-59 is fine and in most cases so will regular TV coax (normally RG-58). Be
carefull where you run it. Try to avoid flouresent lights etc. If you have
to pass them then do it at a 90deg angle so that there is the least possible
amount of interfference.
