Question:I just moved into a home that has sensors wired to this system.
I would like to know if I can reprogram the unit so I can use the alarm
without the telephone hookup. Does anyone know about these units? and
do you know how to use this system? Can you HELP ME?! I called brinks
home securityand they will only help me if I subscribe to their twenty
something dollars a month plus $55 reprograming fee. I don't value my
security that high, but would like to have a siren linked to this system
instead of having it sitting in a closet taking space.Do you know how
to use brinks home security system?
Answer:Most of the systems I've seen have a relay for local alarm sounding.
And the telephone dial up board is a plug in add-on and not necessary
for the system to work. Just unplug the board and the micro sees it's
gone and the rest of the system continues to work.
Have you powered up the system and activated the alarm in order to
listen for the relay closure? Most of these security companies use
pretty noisy relays. There's usually a terminal strip for wiring
external stuff to an alarm. Sometimes they're labeled.
Often they put the relay contacts connections next to each other to make
installation easier. Just take voltmeter and go along the terminal
strip looking for the two blank connections (or they may be used to turn
on the telephone dialer) If you find some with *no* voltage on them,
then ohm them out to see if they are the alarm indicator contacts.
(They're Normally Open)
