Question:Brinks is running a special here in the Austin, TX area on installation and
monthly fee on their alarm system. For a $149.00 installation fee and
2-year contract at $22.00/month, we get the entry clip on each exterior
door, a wall monitor/keypad, battery backup, internal infrared motion detector
and siren/flashing light. Anybody out there use presently or have used Brinks?
Any knowledge on their response time?
Answer:The response time is very quick. When the alarm gets tripped, they call
the home under 2 minutes. (This provides noone cuts your phone line) If
someone picks it up and answers back with the incorrect password, they
immediately call the cops. Then it's up to fate. If noone pickls up the
phone, i.e., if one forgets about the dog/cat and let it trip the alarm,
they would call a sequence that you determined, e.g. an example sequence:
call your neightbour next, family, then cops....... By the way thru the
keypad, you can bypass the IR detector for pets. Or they can tune the
sensitivity.
One drawback in the scheme of only protecting the door along with the IR
detector. This means it will not catch a crook breaking your windows. He
needs to be inside the house , or in the case where the IR is off, needs to
exit thru the door. But for $150, you can't ask for more...cause some of
the home kit (without monitoring) is about that price. You can just buy
one of the home kits for windows and hook it up to the Brinks somehow.
