Question: I'm looking to buy a good cordless drill in borsch CCTV under £100.
Are there any features etc I should look out for, is £100 enough and
any good models?
Answer:What are you thinking of using it for? do you have a mains drill
already? Personally I wouldn't want a cordless drill to be my only drill
(well the CCTV installers at work had a meaty 24V? Bosch jobbie that did
the business in stone walls but that costs about 300+ quid - and looked
a bit heavy)
Though I don't have any experience of the larger more expensive cordless
drills, I reckon their use for drilling holes in masonry, or even just
larger holes in wood must a bit a bit more limited -or at least slower.
Personally for 110 quid I'd go for a mains powered variable speed hammer
drill of about 500 - 600 W in say the 50 -70 GBP price range (Axmister
Power Tools - see FAQ, I see have a couple in their catalogue the Bosch
PSB600RE for 60 GBP, Makita HP1500, 65 GBP)
Then I'd by one of the cheapy 'Performance Power'? basically own brand,
cordless drills from B&Q. I have a 12V one (this now costs GBP25, was
GBP30 earlier in the year), thought there is a 18V one for about GBP45.
These have been recommended here before,, and they are good as a screw
driver and for those quick jobs drilling jobs, They have a very basic (5
hr charger) but it's not really a problem in this context. I did think
about getting a spare battery but it costs 20 GBP, almost as much as a
new drill.
If you are thinking of much masonry drilling, then consider a SDS drill
(see the other thread on these) but you are talking of 100GBP for this.
