Question:I have a ADT security monitor that has 6 pin mini DIN female connectors on
the back for ADT cameras that have motion detection, audio(to listen from
mike on camera), and audio(to talk from monitor to speaker on ADT camera,
momentary, i.e. push to talk on monitor). My problem is that I don't have
any of these ADT cameras but I do have some high quality cameras with motion
& mikes built in that I would like to use connected to these monitor din
connectors but my cameras have regular 6 pin DINs and the monitor uses mini
6 pin DINs. I have the pinout for the ADT monitor, and the pin designation
from the PCB of one of the cameras below. Does anyone have a guess as to
which pins should match? I realize the audio out from the monitor will not
be used because there is no speaker on the cameras I want to use. Thanks
for any help or direction. What do you know about adt security camera?
Answer:The ADT monitor does not seem to have a GND pin on the connector.
It's hard to believe that they use the shield on the incoming cable to
carry power, audio and video grounds but it may be. It's not good
practice.
It also appears that ADT's ALARM is nothing more than switching the
camera audio on. Just a guess.
It should not harm anything (remember Murphy) to connect Camera
Video to Monitor Video-IN, Camera Audio to Monitor Audio-IN,
Camera GND to Monitor chassis using the DIN plug shield connection.
If all is well you can put a voltmeter on the A Alarm and D alarm
pins and see what is there with motion.
