Question:I am planning on having an ADT monitored alarm (NOT WITH REDCARE)on
the same line as my AAISP ADSL - in a new property. Since the ADSL is
wires-only I will be using splitters - to seperate the voice channel
from the data. Now - I already have an ADT installed alarm in a
different property - and I have noticed that the ADT installation
engineers "hardwired" the alarm system cabling into the BT Master
socket. So - my question is this: what should the ADT engineer be
wiring the adt monitored alarm system into in the new property?
The splitter cable - or the BT master socket as per before?
I am persuing ADT with the same question - but any thoughts from
the experts in this group would be most appreciated.
Answer:The advice we have to offer is that you must confirm with the alarm
company that they are happy for ADSL to be on the same line.
Technically I am sure there would be no issues, however we cannot
accept any liability that could arise if the alarm failed to work
correctly.
ADT cannot wire the the BT side of the master socket, but could
connect to the face place. The issue is that this would not have
a splitter. This is one of the cases where one of the BT master socket
face plate splitters is ideal. Someone in the group may be prepared
to do a swap for a plug in splitter with you maybe. If you had one of
these, ADT can connect in the same way as normal. Filing that, see
if they can use a normal plug...
