Question: We are planning on getting an alarm system installed by ADT.
When I talked to the sales rep he said that the sensors are magnetic
sensors and have a small magnet that is attached to a door or window.
I want to add a sensor to the dead bolt in our front door. Ideally the
alarm system would then tell me when front door deadbolt is not
locked.
The problem is that I cannot think of any way to get a magnetic sensor
with its magnet near the deadbolt. My question is: Are there other
types of sensors that can be added to an alarm systems? If I could add
a sensor that detected the metal in the dead bolt then all would be
well. Also when there are multiple sensors in one "zone" how are they
wired? Are they in series? Do you know adt home?
Answer:What kind of deadbolt? Which door? Not enough information. But if you are
referring to a barrel type dead bolt that is oprerated from the inside
only, then you can ask them to rig up a plunger switch. However if you can't set
the bolt from the outside, asuming this is the door you exit and enter from, you
will not be able to set the alarm when you leave.
What you are thinking of can be done but may cause more trouble than its worth.
Alarm systems are not really designed to tell you when something is locked.
It's always best to check that everything is locked for your self.
All the best,
