Question: ADT is increasing residential monitoring rates by $5.00/month in Las
Vegas. Their rationale isn't really that clear. Is it because they don't
have a security force and have to pay more to a sub-contractor who
answers with armed response? Is it because they want more money from
residential customers while NOT daring to charge their corporate
accounts like Sears more?
I am just about at the point where it would be more cost effective to
install my own system WITHOUT expensive and delayed response from the
likes of ADT.
Incidentally, ADT "claims" that they have to raise the rate becuase of
false alarms. Well, at least in my neighborhood, their response to a
REAL ALARM this past spring was LATE. Until I recieve a full explanation
of this rate increase (not to date), I can't recommend ADT. Shop around.
Answer:I'm no big fan of ADT, But, in all fairness, this is a plausable explaination.
The higher cost of alarm response has forced many companies in Las Vegas to
ponder rate increases this year. I think that you will see many companies
raising rates. As for the large corporate accounts, they probably will make
some adjustments to them, but since they already charge more than residential,
the increase will not have to be as large.
