Question: I need to set up a multicamera security video system for a large rural
property, with 4-6 cameras. Each camera needs to run off a car
battery, as does the monitor. Connections must be wireless.
Most of the time, the cameras will be looking at unmoving terrain and
nothing else. Ideally, the monitor should incorporate some sort of
logic circuitry that beeps when movement on any of the camera inputs
is detected. Does such an animal as this system exist? Can you give
me some Outdoor Surveillance Camera recommendation?
Answer:That is the dream of many rural residents. Even if you get it to work,
there are problems. 4-6 outdoor surveillance cameras will not begin to
cover all approaches unless you install them so close to your house as
to eliminate advance warning. Also the cameras are useless unless you
are looking at the monitor. IMHO, a better system would be a larger array
of non-video detectors that feed into a coded pager system or such. You
can use vehicle and gate detectors, PIR and mechanical and others including
"bait" detectors to give you a lot of advance warning even when you are many
miles away.
