Question:
I've done quite a bit of research over the last couple of days on video
capture devices/cards for multicamera surveillance. In fact, I've been all
over DejaNews and several News Groups. Does anyone have any
experience with these items, especially the Novex VC Plus, add-in PCI cards,
or stand alone boxes for recording and multiplexing surveillance cameras. I
need to stop a string of instances of vandalism and need evidence-quality
data. Can you answer some questions about Computer Surveillance Camera
for me?Thanks. I appreciate your input.
Answer:Have no experience with that system but have with others, but as
we sell them, my opinion may be considered biased. But first some questions;
How many cameras do you wish to monitor and record at the same time?
How many hours of video do you want to store? Will you want to output
the recording onto a regular VHS tape later? Will you want to 'poll'
the PC so that you can monitor the video live? If yes, will you want
to remotely record that viewed video? If only interested in one camera,
would you want to watch and record onto a laptop? Answer these and you
will get answers. BTW, You need a good TFT LCD screen so that you can
use the laptop as a monitor. We have a quad PCMCIA card without audio
that records each of four cameras into separate directories, plus one
that does a single camera with stereo audio.
